ELIXR’s Protégé Program is designed to inspire the next generation of XR creators by giving them hands-on working opportunities to create augmented and virtual reality simulations and find meaningful employment. This program not only connects students with paid work integrated learning opportunities but also soft skills professional development training and technical mentorship.

FAQ (Frequently asked questions)

How long are the placements?

We offer both full-time and part-time placements with hybrid, remote and on-site options available. The summer semester will begin on May 6, 2024. Full-time students will end their term on August 23, 2024. Part-time students will end their term on November 29, 2024.

Is this a paid internship?

Yes! Our Protégés are compensated at a rate of $20/hour for their work. Protégés are paid in part by ELIXR Simulations and in part by the industry host, allowing for Protégés to have a fair wage while reducing wage costs for Hosts.

What is included in a typical week for a protégé?

In a typical week, Protégés report to their Host for daily assignments and project details. Protégés are also expected to attend weekly professional development and mentorship meetings.

What is the eligibility criteria?

Protégés must adhere to the following requirements:

  • Be able to work in Canada (sorry, no international students are accepted)

  • Be in their 3rd or 4th year of their post-secondary education OR

  • Graduated within the last two years

  • Are enrolled or graduated from programs such as computer science, computer engineering, digital art, or related programs, or have strong personal experience designing or coding for extended reality simulations

  • Are able to commit to working 4-8 months, part-time or full-time, and will invest time into integrated professional development
