All Protégés must be a resident of Alberta, legally permitted to work in Canada, and either enrolled in, or a recent graduate (within 2 years) of an accredited University or College.
Applying to the Protégé program requires completing a series of technical and soft-skills interview with both the ELIXR team, and the team we're looking to place you with.
Depending on your final placement, you will be working between 14 to 26 weeks, either part time or full time. You'll be supported by regular mentorship from ELIXR's pool of senior-level VR advisors.

No. While prior XR experience is a benefit, many Protégé student's come from more traditional game development, game art/design, and computer science backgrounds.
Protégé placements work on a flexible full-time (14 weeks) or part-time (26 weeks) schedule.
For development students: Make sure you are comfortable working in platforms like Unity and Unreal, and have a strong grasp of objected oriented programming in C# or C++.
For art students: Make sure you have an organized portfolio that demonstrates your experience working in both 2D and 3D digital mediums. Experience in game engines like Unity or Unreal is a strong benefit.
Yes! This is a paid program. You will be receiving a paycheque throughout your entire Protégé placement.
You will work directly with teams building real-world XR applications, learning how to scope, develop, and deploy complex technical projects.
In addition to these hard skills the Protégé program includes a structured professional development program. This is designed to grow your leadership, teamwork, and soft-skill capacities.
